STUDENT ORIENTATION SCHEDULE
Saturday
 June 30, 2007

7:30-9:00am - Pine Hall
Residence Hall Check-in
Go directly to Pine Hall and check-in with the Residence Life staff.  Students will receive their room assignment and room key.  Students are to “place and drop” their belongings in their rooms then go immediately over to the Student Center for the orientation program.  Time will be allotted at the end of the day to unpack. Student volunteers will be on site to assist.

8:30-9:30am - Student Center
Orientation Check-In/Continental Breakfast
After Pine Hall check-in students and families will proceed to SC219 for a continental breakfast and the EOF Orientation Weekend Program. Students will complete Security ID card applications at the check-in table.

11:00-11:30am - Alumni Lounges
Project Ramapo, Peer to Peer Discussion: First Year Experience (FYE) Staff
Gain some common ground with classmates and your FYE staff during this peer-led workshop. Now it’s your turn to ask us ALL the questions that you have regarding college life. We will also explore different areas of interest such as campus leadership, the proper use of Facebook and the ethical and legal issues associated with downloading music. 

11:30-12:00pm - Alumni Lounges
Office of Residence Life:
Students love our Residence Halls and campus housing is at a high demand. Find out everything you need to know regarding residential campus life including what personal items you can bring into the residence halls, items needed for computer connection, and much more.

12:00pm-12:30pm - Alumni Lounges
Campus Security:
You will learn about how the College is organized to provide a safe and healthy environment.  This session will also include safety tips and ideas you can use to reinforce the mutual responsibility we have to our community.

12:30-2:00pm - Student Center
LUNCH: (Students and Families)
Enjoy a delicious barbeque prepared by Ramapo Dining Services. You will have a chance to reconvene with your family, socialize with other students and take a short break from this information-packed day.

“Choices”: Group A (Red NAME TAGS)
Center for Health and Counseling Services, Peer Educators and Peer Facilitators
All new first year college students are faced with situations in which they are challenged with making the “right” choice.  One personal choice is the decision to drink or not. “CHOICES” an interactive discussion group and decision making program designed specifically for college students provides an opportunity to explore the many choices first year students are typically faced with and examines how students make smart choices.

This is an opportunity to ask any remaining questions and to evaluate the EOF Orientation Weekend Program to assist us in improving future orientation programs. Each student will receive a thumb-sized flash drive for computer file storage!!

Danny Jean, Director of First Year Experience Program will introduce the First Year Seminar and Summer Reading
Program applicable to ALL first year Ramapo College students.

Set up your MYRAMAPO account
The MYRAMAPO portal is a secured community communication tool that gives access to the Ramapo intranet, Web for students, email, calendar, groups, course tools, and more.  It’s similar to a homepage on My Yahoo, AOL, or MSN.  Think of MY RAMAPO as your gateway into the college—whether you’re physically on campus or not.

First Year Seminar Registration
Students will be escorted to the computer labs to register for their First Year Seminar course.  Students will have
the opportunity to select their First Year Seminar course with the assistance of EOF professional staff and student peer
facilitators.

Bring your best smile as you take your first picture as a college student. You will need your student ID to enter your residence hall room, to use library services, to enter the Bradley Sports and Recreation Center, and to access your meal plan.

TRANSITIONS Workshop
Dee Bright-Foreman, Acting Associate Director of Educational Opportunity Fund Program
The TRANSITIONS workshop is designed to educate and to inform first year students attending the EOF Summer Program on the academic and social transitional issues students encounter.  Students will engage in small and large group discussions with EOF upperclassmen and gain insight and advice on how to adjust to the demands of the EOF Summer Program and campus life in general.

Center for Health and Counseling Services:
This session focuses on the transition on family as the student enters college and the services available on campus regarding a student’s health and wellness. Whether it's your first family member leaving for College or if you are a "veteran," the transition to College is fraught with stress and anxiety. Learn to recognize the normal evidences of "transition issues" and how you can support your student (and get through it yourself!). In addition, a short reminder about the mandatory immunization information will be included. (Your student will not be allowed to attend Ramapo unless the immunization information is on hand.)

11:50-12:10pm - H-Wing Auditorium
 Financial Aid/Paying Your Bill:

During this session you will hear about payment options, deadlines, and financial aid related procedures.

Student Affairs:
This session will provide an opportunity to meet with a senior student affairs administrator who has also watched children go off to college.  You will hear about some exciting plans for the year; about how you can partner with the administration and faculty in facilitating your student's transition to college; and, most importantly, share your thoughts about this important time in your student's life. You will also learn about the campus privacy and security procedures and how we work to unsure the safety of all of our students.
