Mission Statement
The Center for Academic Advising and First-Year Experience (CAAFYE) provides a comprehensive introduction to the academic and social environment of the Ramapo College community with a focus on the success and retention of all students. CAAFYE provides a wide range of services including New Student Orientation (First Year Students/Transfers/Readmits/Adult Learners/Families), Academic Advisement, Retention Programs, Personal Development Workshops, Family Day, and the administration of specific groups within the MyRamapo/Luminis online community. CAAFYE serves as the primary resource for Academic Advisement for all community members and works collaboratively with faculty and staff in offering optimal services to our students.
Goals
- To provide a comprehensive new student orientation program for First Year Students/Transfers/Readmits/Adult Learners and their families as an introduction to the academic and social environments of Ramapo College
- To academically advise students to develop suitable educational plans including course selection, interpretation of institutional requirements, selection of intended majors and/or course of study, major exploration, general education/major/school core/minor requirements, verifying prerequisite and testing completion, course sequencing, appropriate credit loads and graduation requirements.
- To implement a comprehensive academic advisement development program for faculty and staff to establish advisement competencies that meets the needs of our students.
- To empower students by developing their decision-making skills, reinforcing their self-direction, and strengthening their personal responsibility for their educational, career and life choices.
- To enhance student and faculty awareness of academic policies and educational resources (i.e. tutoring, CLEP, study abroad, etc.).
- To collect and distribute data regarding the educational needs of liberal arts students, their history and academic performance for the use of institutional decisions and policy-making.
- To increase retention and persistence of students.
