CLEP (College-Level Examination Program)
Students may accumulate credit toward a degree by demonstrating knowledge gained independently; start studies at a higher level, and save time and money.
Instructions for CLEP Candidates ~ 2009-2010
NOTE: Due to on-going technical difficulties CLEP testing at Ramapo College has been suspended. CLEP testing is available at the following nearby locations:

- Ramapo College provides CLEP testing only for students admitted to or enrolled at the institution. Students must obtain an approval form from the Advisement Center before taking CLEP exams.
- Seating is limited and appointments are scheduled on a first-come first-served basis determined by date of receipt of completed CLEP registration form and administration fee by the Testing Center.
- Requests for CLEP exams may only be made by submission of all required documents (registration form and required fees). Students are permitted to take one CLEP exam per test date.
- Failure to include administration fee will delay the registration process.
- Cancellations require 24 hours notice or subject to a $20.00 re-scheduling fee.
- There may be times when CLEP examinations are cancelled due to inclement weather or other situations. Call the Testing Center to check on cancellations or postponements of exams - 201 684-7543.
FEES:
- The fee for each CLEP exam is $72.00
- The administration fee for each CLEP exam is $35.00 (non-refundable)
- If you are taking an exam with an optional essay, there is an additional $10 fee payable to Ramapo College. Students must pay for the exam on the day of the exam by valid credit card (preferred method of payment) or a check or money order payable to the College-Level Examination Program (CLEP).
- Do not combine CLEP and administration fees; payments must be made separately

To register for CLEP: Mail a check or money order in the amount of $35.00 payable to Ramapo College along with your completed CLEP registration form to:

We are unable to accept payment of the $35.00 test administration by credit card or cash. Do NOT send payment for CLEP exam with your registration form. The $72 CLEP exam fee must be paid on the day of the exam.
Appointment confirmation: CLEP candidates will receive an e-mail confirmation of their scheduled appointment date and time. Seating for CLEP is limited and appointments are scheduled on a first come first served basis determined by date of receipt of registration materials by the Testing Center.

On Examination Day
- Arrive on time. Plan to arrive at least 15 minutes in advance of your exam appointment time. You will not be admitted after the testing session has begun.
- Make sure you bring two forms of identification. The primary ID must be a government-issued photo ID with signature. The secondary ID must have either a photo or a signature. Student IDs can be used only as a secondary ID in addition to a government-issued photo ID with signature.
- DANTES-funded military candidates must present a current military ID in addition to a second form of government-issued ID.
- If you fail to present the required, appropriate ID, you will not be tested.

- Current state-issued driver’s license
- Current U.S. military identification card
- Current Passport
- Current State or Federal identification card
- Tribal identification card
- Naturalization Card
Forms of ACCEPTABLE Secondary ID (includes photo or signature)
- Social Security Card
- Student ID
- Credit Card
- Employee ID
Prohibited Items ~ the following items are not permitted in the testing lab. Lockers will be available for CLEP candidates to secure ALL personal items while testing.
- Calculators
- Cellular phones/pagers, beepers, walkie-talkies, PDAs, or wireless communication devices (e.g., BlackBerry)
- Digital watches (wrist or pocket), alarm watches, or wristwatch cameras
- Any kind of photographic or copying device
- Listening devices such as radios, media players with headphones, or recorders
- Dictionaries, books, pamphlets, or reference materials
- Papers of any kind (scratch paper will be provided by the test center administrator)
- Mechanical pencils or any type of pen or highlighter
- Slide rules, protractors, compasses, or rulers
- Food, beverages, or tobacco products
- Hats (unless worn as a religious requirement), hooded sweatshirts or “hoodies”
- Any other unauthorized testing aids
