Message from the Dean
The 2010 – 2011 academic year was truly an exciting and rewarding one for the Anisfield School of Business. After five years of hard work by the faculty and staff, the school achieved accreditation by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB). This establishes the Anisfield School of Business (ASB) as a member of an elite group of business schools offering the highest quality business programs in the world. We are fortunate to have an outstanding faculty dedicated to student learning, with a commitment to professional development and scholarly research to inform their teaching. We are also fortunate to have a student body that is motivated and engaged in expanding their knowledge and skills both inside and outside the classroom. This combination makes for a stimulating learning environment which prepares our students to be responsible, effective leaders in the global economy.
But our accomplishments over the past year do not end there. We also managed to inaugurate an exciting program of courses and student contests focused around our new Trading Lab, launch a new Project Management Certificate program that is rapidly attracting an impressive number of working professionals from the business community as well as from among our own Ramapo student population, and open the doors of our new Cahill/ ASB Career Services Office which provides enhanced career development and placement services to our students.
And while it may be difficulty to maintain the exhilarating pace of the accomplishments we experienced last year, we certainly do not intend to rest on our laurels. To the contrary, we have already begun a number of new initiatives to further improve the quality of educational experience we provide to our traditional undergraduate students and to grow our offerings to additional student populations that could benefit from the expertise and teaching skills we have to offer. In the former category we have begun work, through the Cahill/ ASB Career Services Office, on how we might infuse additional career planning and professional skills development activities into our undergraduate program. In today's difficult economic climate we are intensifying our efforts to ensure that our graduating students are fully prepared to successfully compete for the best jobs in the marketplace.
In the spring of 2011, we began a comprehensive investigation into the question of whether and how we should revitalize our MBA program. As you may recall, the Anisfield School of Business began offering an MBA program in 1998, but stopped admitting new students to the program in 2004 in order to focus its resources on achieving AACSB accreditation. It was perfectly clear to us from the start, that if we did decide to revitalize the program, it would certainly be quite different from the original program in concert with the dramatic changes that have occurred within the global business environment and leading edge trends and technologies in graduate business education. An important element of the investigation was an electronic panel composed of more than 100 Ramapo College Alumni who provided valuable feedback and insights as to the most desirable options for the content and delivery of a potential program.
The conclusion of the study was a decision to launch a new accelerated MBA program geared to working professionals. Students will earn their MBA degrees in just 20 months through a practical, relevant, and hands-on curriculum that includes extensive opportunities to apply essential management skills and knowledge in real-world settings. As part of the curriculum, students will travel to China to gain insight into the business opportunities available in today's emerging markets, and will hone the skills they need to succeed by participating in team consulting assignments with local area businesses. Classes for the new MBA program begin in the fall of 2012. For more information about the program including admission requirements, go to http://www.ramapo.edu/mba/
Stay tuned for updates on the continued growth and evolution of the Anisfield School of Business. As always, we welcome your comments and suggestions and greatly appreciate your continued support.

The Anisfield School of Business prepares students for careers in business and positions of responsibility in both the public and private sectors. The curriculum's international dimension ensures that students can participate actively and successfully in the global marketplace. Students also receive excellent preparation for pursuing graduate business and law school degrees.
The School's faculty all hold terminal degrees in their fields, and many bring years of experience at the executive level in large and medium sized businesses. This mix of academic preparation and practical application allows students to see and experience how theory and practice interact in business. Along with those faculty who teach in the traditional business specialities, the School has an interdisciplinary group who teach a liberal arts core that is integrated with the more specialized business programs. The School's faculty values the liberal arts both as a life enriching experience and as an important background for business study. For this reason these studies form a crucial part of the business curriculum.
The School offers five majors: a B.S. degree in Accounting, a B.S. degree in Business Administration, a B.A. degree in Economics, a B.S. degree in Information Systems, and a B.A. degree in International Business. The B.S. degree in Business Administration offers programs in finance, management, and marketing. The B.A. degree in Economics combines some elements of Business Administration with a major program in Economics. The B.A. degree in International Business combines significant elements of Business Administration with studies of the world's regions and foreign languages. The B.S. degree in Accounting combines significant elements of Business Administration with a major in Accounting. The B.S. degree in Information Systems combines elements of Business Administration with a major in Information Systems.

The core courses that are basic to a business program lead to competence in accounting, computer information systems, economics, finance, international business, management, marketing, and strategic management. As important as they are, these courses alone do not provide sufficient preparation to deal with the highly complex and often unanticipated forces that can influence personal and business activities. Accordingly the Anisfield School of Business provides a strong liberal arts and interdisciplinary foundation to broaden the student's perspective and intellectual abilities.
All students in the School begin their studies with an integrative course exploring the intersection of business, government, and society. They complete their studies with an integrative capstone course advancing their strategies management competencies cross-functionality.
The Anisfield School of Business has two outstanding personal computer laboratories. Each contains 25 networked, workstations and provides access to a variety of Windows-version software, including word processing, spread sheet, data base, business graphics, desktop publishing, accounting, and statistical programs.
Students also have access to a microvax minicomputer for work with programming languages and the UNIX operating system. All students in the School are given electronic mail accounts and encouraged to communicate with course instructors, advisers, and classmates using e-mail and the College Luminis System.
Students who wish to complete a degree program in Business Administration, Accounting, Economics, Information Systems, or International Business must have a 2.5 grade point average when they reach 48 degree credits (including transfer credits). Students who transfer in with 48 or more credits must have a 2.5 grade point average at the time of transfer to enter the business program.
The Anisfield School of Business seeks to combine theory with practice by supporting the Cooperative Education Program and sponsoring extracurricular organizations and activities. Students are urged to join the Accounting Club, the International Business Association, the Society for Human Resource Management, the Management Club, the Finance and Investments Club, and the Marketing Club. The School also sponsors a local chapter of Delta Mu Delta, the national business administration honor society, and a chapter of Omicron Delta Epsilon, an economics honor society.
