![]() ![]() 2007 MEN'S SOCCER "Season Review" 12-5-2 OVERALL, 4-3-2 NJAC Ranked #25 in the Final NCSAA Top 25 Poll The Ramapo College men’s soccer team finished their season standing 12-5-2 overall, 4-3-2 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference. They earned a #5 seed in the 2007 NJAC Men’s Soccer Tournament. Ramapo traveled to #4 Rutgers Camden where they shutout the Scarlet Raptors, 2-0. They would face #1 New Jersey City University in the semi-final round falling 0-3. For their efforts they earned a seed to compete in the ECAC Metro Division III post-season tournament for the 13th year in a row. Ramapo earned a #1 seed and hosted #4 Drew University in the semi-final game, falling short, 0-1, in double overtime. The team continued to improve their win streak when ahead at the half. This year, Ramapo stood at 7-0 improving their overall record for the last 12 years to 94-2 when leading at the half. Ramapo opened their 2007 season at home hosting the 5th Annual President’s Cup on August 31st facing the York College Cardinals in the opening round. The Roadrunners earned a 5-0 shut out victory before defeating John Jay, 4-0, to take home the championship trophy for the fifth straight year. The Roadrunners defeated FDU-Florham, 4-1 at home on September 5th. They traveled to Schenectady, NY, where they shutout RPI, 4-0 in the Union Tournament. Their match-up with host Union College the following day was halted due to lighting. After defeating Old Westbury, 4-0 on the road, the team hosted The College of New Jersey to open the 2007 NJAC season. The teams played to a 1-1 tie in double overtime. The Roadrunners suffered their first loss of the year to the Gothic Knights of New Jersey City University, 1-2, on the road on September 19th. Ramapo posted a 1-0 non-conference victory over Drew University and defeated NJAC rivals William Paterson University, 3-2, Kean University, 3-0 to improve to 8-1-1 overall, 2-1-1 in the conference. The Roadrunners recorded their 7th shutout of the season defeating Eastern Connecticut, 2-0 before hosting NJAC rival Rowan University on October 10th falling to the Profs, 0-1 in overtime. They defeated NJAC rivals Stockton, 3-1 and Rutgers Newark, 2-0 and after 110 minutes of play on the road against Rutgers Camden the teams remained locked at 1-1. At their final home game of the regular season Ramapo suffered their third NJAC loss of the season, falling to Montclair State, 0-2 before heading into tournament play. Individually, the team saw much success on the season. Junior sweeper Ryan Lahey was named NJAC Defensive Player of the Year for his efforts. The team recorded nine shutouts and held the opposition to 0.76 goals against average and goals allowed average of 0.79. Rookie Giuseppe Trani led the team in goals with ten while adding two assists for 22 total points. Junior Ken Hussey was second on the team in goals posting eight and was tied for third with four assists for 20 points. Sophomore Dave Marin was second on the team in assists with five; he also posted four goals for a total of 13 points. Senior Arturo Moreira netted five goals and one assist for 11 points. Rookie Jon Chiles led the team with six assists. Sophomore goalkeeper Ian Tighe, led Ramapo in over 1,400 minutes in front of the net. He recorded 97 saves to move into first place on the all-time single season leaders list, while recording a 0.81 goals against average with six shut outs. The Roadrunners will return all but five to their 2008 roster. CONGRATULATIONS and good luck to seniors Mike DiMauro, Bryan Choma, Arturo Moreira, Raffaele Lauretta and Garrett Keating.
