Congratulations to NJAIAW Woman of the Year, Ashley Cornett. Ashley was honored at Seton Hall University's luncheon in celebration of the National Girls and Women in Sports Day on February 3, 2008. 

Ashley is a four year member of the Volleyball team and captained them the past two years. She has earned a 3.869 GPA and has been named to the Dean's List  six times, NJAC All-Academic three times. She is a member and President of SAAC for Ramapo and the New Jersey Athletic Conference. Ashley is also a member of the Alpha Lambda Delta and Chi Alpha Sigma honor societies and is the president of her sorority, Theta Phi Alpha. After graduation in spring 2008, she plans to continue her education in a Ph. D. program in biochemistry..


2007 WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL
"Season Review"
19-11 OVERALL, 5-3 NJAC

The Ramapo College women’s volleyball team finished the 2007 season 19-11 overall, 5-3 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference. The Roadrunners earned a place in the New Jersey Athletic Conference Championship Tournament for the fourth year in a row. This year, the Roadrunners earned the #4 seed and hosted #5 Rowan University. The team posted a 3-1 win in the opening round before falling to #1 New Jersey City University, 0-3 on November 1st.

Ramapo opened the 2007 season by hosting the NJAC/Skyline Challenge on Sunday, September 2nd. The Roadrunners went 3-0 on the day posting three shutout victories over St. Joe’s, Farmingdale and SUNY Old Westbury. Ramapo went on the road to the Old Westbury Tournament coming home 4-0. They defeated Lincoln, Old Westbury and Baruch all 3-0 before defeating Farmingdale, 3-2. The Roadrunners went down a bumpy road falling short in three straight matches. They hosted St. Joe’s Brooklyn, falling 2-3 before traveling to NJAC rival Stockton getting shutout, 0-3. The Roadrunners hosted NJAC foe New Jersey City losing to the Gothic Knights, 1-3. The Roadrunners got back on track winning two of their three matches at home on September 28th hosting, Lycoming, 3-1, FDU, 1-3 and Rhode Island, 3-2. Ramapo hosted NJAC rival Kean and defeated the Cougars, 3-1 to improve to 10-4 overall. The Roadrunners hosted the Ramapo Invitational on October 5th and 6th at the Bradley Center. They shutout SUNY Institute of Technology 3-0 and defeated Baruch in an exciting 3-2 match. On day two of the tournament Ramapo shutout King’s 3-0 and fell to CCNY, 0-3. Ramapo was on the road against NJAC rival Montclair and fell 0-3 to the eventual 2007 NJAC Champions. The team faced Rutgers-Camden and shutout the Scarlet Raptors, 3-0 before traveling to Rowan for a close 3-2 victory. They faced tough competition at the Skidmore Tournament falling short in all four matches facing, Union, Colby Sawyer, Clarkson and St. Michael’s.

Ramapo got back on track winning their next five matches including victories over William Paterson on the road, 3-0 and York (NY), 3-0 at home. Ramapo wrapped up the regular season as they traveled to Rutgers Newark and shutout the Scarlet Raiders, 3-0 to finish 19-11 overall and 5-3 in the conference. For their efforts they were awarded the #4 seed in the 2007 NJAC Women’s Volleyball Tournament. The team hosted #5 Rowan coming away with a 3-1 (30-25, 23-30, 33-31, 30-23) victory. The Roadrunners then traveled to #1 New Jersey City as they fell to the Gothic Knights, 0-3 (17-30, 20-30,16-30) ending their hopes of a NJAC Championship.

Individually, sophomore Maureen Hennecke led the team with 403 kills while adding 14 total blocks and 157 digs on the year. Senior Ashley Cornett recorded 72 kills and was first on the team totaling 1,010 assists. She posted her 2,000th career assist against St. Joe’s Brooklyn on September 18th. Rookie Meagan Taege posted 224 kills good enough for second on the team. She posted 53 service aces, tied with Hennecke for first on the team. Senior Christine Simmons was first on the team in digs with 399.
