Visual Communication Design Concentration (CA): Home

The Visual Communication Design concentration prepares students for professional careers and post-graduate study in the following areas: graphic design, web design, interactive media, animation, and motion graphics for broadcast and media.

Visual Communication Design students develop the ability to think critically, conceptualize, develop ideas, and the transforming design theory into practice.

Built on a liberal arts foundation, coursework in this concentration includes idea development, graphic design, design history, typography, print design, web design, animation design, motion graphics, visual effects, experiential internships, as well as many other courses and electives to choose from. Because of the program's interdisciplinary nature, students are also afforded the opportunity to choose elective courses from other majors and concentrations within the School of Contemporary Arts inclusive of photography, filmmaking, journalism, magazine design, sound design, music, theater, and fine arts.

Visual Communication Design students have won multiple graphic design awards in state competitions. Upon graduation, students have gone on to work at graphic design studios, advertising agencies, production houses, television stations, and corporations in the tri-state area. Other students choose to attend graduate schools such as The School of Visual Arts, Parsons The New School for Design, New York University, and Kean University.

What is a Concentration?

A concentration is a focus on a more targeted field of the major. Some majors have concentrations in which you choose your course of study. These majors include Business Administration, Communication Arts, Music, and Social Science.
