Music Major
Music Performance Concentration (CA): Home
The Music Performance concentration fosters individual expression and the development of performance skills. Performance students have the opportunity to perform in a wide range of music ensembles and as solo artists. This concentration also provides a foundation for students who wish to pursue K-12 music teaching.
Vocalists are encouraged to explore styles from contemporary to classical. Most singers participate in one of Ramapo's five vocal ensembles and the Musical Theater Workshop presents an original staged showcase each year. Emphasis at Ramapo is on development of the "whole singer" and students are supported in developing unique performance interests and projects.
Instrumentalists have opportunities to experience music making in contemporary, popular, jazz, classical, rock, and computer-interactive ensembles. Individual lessons with outstanding performer-teachers are available on campus for voice, guitar, bass, piano and strings. Off-campus instruction taking advantage of our proximity to New York is also supported.
What is a Concentration?
A concentration is a focus on a more targeted field of the major. Some majors have concentrations in which you choose your course of study. These majors include Business Administration, Communication Arts, Music, and Social Science.
