Job Title: Environmental Health and Safety Specialist
Unit: Administration and Compliance
Reports to: Gina Mayer-Costa

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Complete checklists to identify potential hazards in custodial closets, halls, storage rooms, and utility rooms.
  • Establish and maintain a database of accidents, fire alarms, and fire drills.
  • Create graphs to determine potential accident trends and fire alarm malfunctions.
  • Assist with fire drills and evacuation procedures in academic buildings and dormitories.
  • Assist in the development of a web page.

Other Responsibiities:

  • Assist in conducting indoor air quality surveys.
  • Assist with material safety data sheet management.
  • Answer telephone and file information as needed.

Skills:

  • Computer use (word, excel, web page design preferred but not required).
  • Good communication and inter-personal skills.
  • Follow verbel and written instructions.

Job Title: Co-operative Education Intern
Unit: Meadowlands Environment Center
Reports to: Education Coordinator

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the implementation of educational programs for visiting
  • Perform routine educational support and animal care tasks
  • Assist in the implementation of educational programs correlated to state and national content standards
  • Assist in the maintenance of the Interactive Learning
  • Support Environmental Educators in prepping class materials and clean up
  • Assist in the care and maintenance of live animal exhibits
  • Respond to public inquiries following established guidelines
  • Contribute to team effort by completing tasks on an as needed assigned basis
  • Travel with Environmental Educators to present educational programs at local schools
  • Whenever possible, teach portions of school programs
  • Be at the MEC two days a week from 9:30-3:00 each day.  The remaining three hours will be spent researching to learn/study material that relates to the job.

Job Title: Lab Assistant
Unit: Nursing Program
Reports to: Professor Stearns

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assist in lab setup
  • Clerical work as assigned

Other Responsibilities:

  • Maintenance of lab appearance
  • Stock supplies

Skills:

  • Organization skills
  • Basic clerical skills
  • Nursing major

Job Title: Recycling Coordinator
Unit: Residence Life/Facilities
Reports to: Teddy Goodman

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the entire recycling program for residence halls campus wide
  • Collect and monitor collection of the recycling from each apartment and apartment building recycling shed as per established schedule
  • Check loads for contamination
  • Check for compliance with recycling codes
  • Report on compliance/non compliance
  • Assist RAs/CAs with educational programs

Skills:

  • Ability to lift objects weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions

Job Title: Recycling Manager
Unit: Residence Life/Facilities
Reports to: Teddy Goodman

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the entire recycling program for residence halls campus wide
  • Gather and supervises collection of the recycling from each apartment and apartment building recycling shed
  • Check loads for contamination
  • Check to verify that residents are complying with recycling codes
  • Assist RAs/CAs with educational programs
  • Supervise volunteers, service-learinng students, community activity workers, and/or others
  • Supervise Recycling Coordinators

Skills:

  • Ability to approach students who are not complying with the recycling rules
  • Ability to lift objects weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions
  • Ability to lead large meetings

Job Title: Laboratory Assistant
Unit: Theoretical and Applied Science
Reports to: Sharon Coope

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assists technician and professors in preparing solutions, setting up and taking down equipment used in the academic labs
  • Cleaning up labs, washing glassware and putting equipment away

Other Responsibiities:

  • Opens packages and puts items in appropriate spaces
  • Restocking
  • Available during lab hours to replenish supplies for teachers

Skills:

  • Some knowledge of biology, chemistry or physics
  • Safety awareness
