The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) and the Strong Interest and Skills Confidence Inventory  are recommended for the upper level student or alumni looking to to identify and explore key career development issues.  The MBTI can be especially helpful in understanding communication styles, learning styles and conflict management. These instruments are a key component in Cahill's career course (CAP).

The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) is the most widely used instrument in personality profiling. The instrument was developed in the 1940's based on Carl Jung's theory of personality type. The instrument is comprised of 93 forced choice questions constructed to determine your preference in certain situations. The MBTI is an assessment that looks at how we process information. It is designed to assist you in understanding what your preferences are and how they interact with other types. When taking this assessment do not worry that there is a right or a wrong in responding to the statements. Be relaxed and be yourself!

The newly revised Strong Interest Inventory focuses on workplace personalities using the Holland Code model as researched and developed by John Holland, a leading career theorist. The Holland Code is used to illustrate the kinds of work in which a person might be comfortable. This instrument compares a person's interests to people who are successfully employed in a wide range of occupations who share similar interests. It also matches one's skills and interests to specific jobs, careers, occupations, and college majors.
