Welcome to the Cooperative Education Program at Ramapo College! Every academic year, nearly 400 students work in a wide variety of internships in the College's nationally recognized Cooperative Education Program. The largest and most comprehensive of Ramapo's experiential learning opportunities, Cooperative Education is an academic program that places students in positions related to their educational and career goals. Cooperative Education integrates academic learning with faculty supervised work experiences in both public and private sectors. Students receive academic credit towards graduation from the College and in many cases, income from the employer for one semester. To learn more, check out this presentation titled:

Why Should I Do a Co-op (PDF)

Created in the 1980-81 academic year, Cooperative Education has placed over 8,000 students and received more than $750,000 in grant awards from Federal, State, and private sources as well as nationwide recognition through U.S. Department of Education "national demonstration model" status.

Ramapo College is a member of the New Jersey Cooperative Education and Internship Association. Ramapo has also linked up with the College Central Network, an easy online resource to search for jobs and internships in every industry.

Testimonials

"During the summer of 2009, I worked as a Co-op student in the Meadowlands Environment Center in Lyndhurst, New Jersey. It was by far the best experience that I could have asked for. It helped me to develop my interpersonal relationships with professional colleagues as well as provided me with valuable experience working with children from ages six to seventeen. Prior to this internship, I had no experience working with children, however, was told by my supervisor that I worked extremely well with them and showed a phenomenal amount of patience and leadership skills for them. My favorite part of the job was getting my hands dirty with all the 'critters' that reside in the mud at the marsh. My favorite animals were the mud crabs. It was also a ton of fun learning how to handle a blue crab: one that if handled incorrectly, will draw blood by use of its claws. There was not any part of the job that I did not like. I had an indescribably AMAZING time this summer working in the Meadowlands, and am 100% positive that I would like to either work there again (as I have been offered the chance to come back whenever I like), or work at another internship." - Seth Fayerman, Senior Biology major

"My experience in the summer internship at the Hertz Corporation was very insightful and I acquired skills that I know will be of benefit for my future career. I worked in the Licensee Administration and Operations department at the Hertz Corporation and as a Business Administration (Finance) major, I gained experience that is not only relevant to the area that I am specializing in, but had the advantage of working with other departments such as the Marketing department, Operations department, and others. I also learned how to interact professionally with other employees in the company. As a result I became more aware of the complexities of today's business environment, which requires more than just the classroom knowledge. As a conclusion, an internship gives you an insight of how your life will be after your college years; the only difference would be that you will be better prepared." - Maritza Guananga, Junior Business Administration and Finance major

"Experiencing a Co-op/internship with the Commodity Futures Trading Commission this summer was such a rewarding experience that I will take with me in my future business career. The internship prepared me for my future business classes that involve money and fraud and also gave me more knowledge about the business world that will benefit me in the long run. By commuting to Manhattan every day, it allowed me to become more independent and to realize what the future might hold for me if I work in the city when I am out of college. My experience with the CFTC also opened my eyes to a new field of future career options, such as being an investigator, which was mainly the work I performed the entire internship. Although an internship is all about work and experience, I came out of the job with friendships with the other interns and staff members that I will continue to have outside the internship. Overall, this was one of the better job experiences I have ever had. I am very grateful for having received a wealth of training, experience, and knowledge from this Co-op experience." - Jaclyn Tredo, 3rd year Business Management major
