"During my time in England , I learned a lot about myself. I learned that I am capable of living on my own, making new friends, and relying on myself. I know that I could do it again and for a longer period of time and I'd like to. I feel like I matured a lot and came to rely on myself a lot more. I have a greater sense of self-satisfaction." Andra Biernacki, Jaguar Cars Ltd., "It [International Cooperative Education] was very useful. It introduced me to working for a large international organization. I already knew that I wanted to work internationally and my internship abroad reinforced that desire and helped me figure out the specifics of what I want to devote my time to doing. I also learned a lot about living on my own, working, taking classes, and dealing with problems as they come along. Working at UNESCO reinforced my goals, values, and the determination to reach those goals." Vivian Nilsson, UNESCO, Paris , France "I feel like I have a broader knowledge of international experience, my ambition and what I can accomplish. It is really unbelievable that I can say I lived in London for six months. I am grateful for The Cahill Center and International Student House." Brandon Frazier, International Student House, London , England "All of the jobs that I obtained through The Cahill Center were wonderful because they allowed me to live and work in places I always dreamed of and wanted to learn more about." Richard (RJ) Turchick, "When I decided to participate in the International Co-op program, I knew it was a good decision but I didn't know how much impact it would have in my life. It may sound a bit dramatic but it's really true. The experience was so incredibly fulfilling to me. During my trip I gained so much confidence in myself and learned tons about dealing with difficult situations and people. I can't say everything was perfect because it wasn't but I would do it again in a heart beat. It's so hard to even put into words the whole experience. One point I must make is that I honest feel that if it were not for my experience abroad I wouldn't be working for Mercedes-Benz right now." Aracely Santos "I think that 'working' in another country is an amazing experience - both good and bad, ups and downs. You get out what you put in, and no matter what your feelings might be about another country, culture, work structure, etc., one has to learn about themselves. It's a chance to explore a career in a "try before you buy" experience, gain exposure to real-world problems not found in textbooks and cultivate work habits, social instincts, adaptability and creativity in an ever-changing world. I can think of no other way I would rather see a country than to live and work in it for an extended period of time." Vladimir Grinberg "Participating in the International Co-op experience was my most fulfilling college experience. I was able to practice my French, live abroad, meet very interesting people, and get international experience that I would not have been able to get through any other program. Not only did the program allow me to receive practical work experience, including living and working abroad, but it also added to my personal development and streamlined my future career goals. International Co-op is probably the best program offered by Ramapo College, and an experience that I am truly glad I took part in." Wendy Josefina Employers "The students from Ramapo College have all been well-prepared for their placements. They have fit in well at BUNAC and quickly adapted to their new surroundings. Ramapo College interns have now become a regular and welcome addition to our team. They are highly motivated and have added an international dimension to the staff, both at work and socially!" Jill Tabuteau, BUNAC, London , England "PGI believes in the Cooperative Education program because it gives us young, energetic individuals who want to learn not only the workings of an office environment, but the actual business that they may be studying in school." Kathy Papadimitriou, PGI, London , England "I believe enormously in an International Cooperative Education program, such as the one from Ramapo College , as it provides students and employers with the possibility of an international and intercultural business experience that expands their awareness of the global economy. It teaches the students to become more assertive, more independent, to analyze situations from a different angle, and to become more valuable contributors for their future employers." Patrick Melis, Meda Communications, Brussels , Belgium We had been contacted by Ramapo Collge about 4 years ago and had been asked as to whether the Semperit Group (one of the top five polymer products manufacturer in Europe ) would be interested in a summer internship by a Ramapo senior student in one of our European plants or offices. After a brief internal discussion (we had never accepted foreign students for internships) we decided to give it a try and I can say that we never regretted to do so. Not only was the program extremely well prepared, we found that the student selected had been carefully chosen to fit in our environment and proved to be a valuable asset during his time with us in Wimpassing , Austria , our main plant for industrial rubber & plastic products in Europe . I was quite impressed as to how the College had prepared him for this overseas assignment. Your follow-up during the internship and the review process was equally professional. Following this experience we have revised our policy and now welcome internship applications from various countries. Congratulations on a program well prepared and executed and we hope that we will have another opportunity in the future to work with you and one of your talented students. Manfred Reichel With the globalization of international commerce, it is imperative that students today understand world cultures and speak and understand foreign languages. Ramapo College , through its International Cooperative Education Program, offers a "hands on" learning experience for young people that want an advantage in our global world economy.
