The Bulletin ; Winter 97/98

Photo: Dedication CeremonyThe Governor William T. Cahill Center for Experiential Learning and Career Services was dedicated in a ceremony held during the College's fall convocation. Ramapo President Robert A. Scott formally named the Center and unveiled a replica of a commemorative plaque in honor of the governor whose term in office coincided with Ramapo's 1971 opening. He presented the governor's son, William T. Cahill, Jr., with a replica of the plaque honoring his father and commented, "Ramapo's commitment to experiential education was forged during his [Governor Cahill's] tenure."

The governor's son spoke movingly of his father and how honored he and his family felt by the dedication. "My father called higher education the 'keys to the library', he believed so deeply in it. We are proud that he has been so highly honored by a New Jersey educational institution."

President Scott also honored state Senator Jack Ewing and Senator Robert Littell, Chairman of the Finance Committee, and publicly thanked them for sponsorship of Senate Bill 1033. Passed by the Senate in March, the bill provided for Ramapo's designation as New Jersey's Public Liberal Arts College and for the enhancement of the Cahill Center, and earmarked $200,000 in state funding for initiatives to continue strengthening the College with its mission to retain New Jersey residents and to continue developing pilot projects for the rest of the state.
