The Consortium's mission:
Established in 1992 as the New Jersey Academy for Community Service and Service-Learning, the New Jersey Higher Education Service-Learning Consortium is a statewide faculty, administrator and student network that supports and promotes service-learning principles and practice at institutions of higher education in the state. Through development of a strong network of individuals and institutions committed to Service-Learning, the Consortium promotes education for citizenship. Combining a variety of experiential learning strategies, the Consortium seeks to strengthen our academic institutions and communities.
The Consortium's vision is to:
* Promote service as an integral part of learning
* Create positive educational experiences
* Support the development of responsible citizenship
* Encourage social change for the common good
The Consortium's goals involve:
* Supporting service-learning programs at member institutions
* Strengthening the quality of community service and educational experience within New Jersey's
service learning programs at member institutions
* Expanding the availability and variety of service-learning courses within member institutions
* Enhancing partnerships among organizations and institutions of higher education
* Providing a forum for creative exchange of best practices in Service-Learning

* Technical assistance on program design, community partner development and curriculum development
* A Speaker's Bureau
* A Resource Center: promotional literature, sample syllabi, procedural manuals
