Academically Adrift:  A Roundtable Discussion among Faculty Members and Students
Wednesday, April 18th, 2012, in SC-136 (Alumni Lounge)
 

A group of faculty members will meet with sociology students in Kristin Kenneavy's Sociolgy Statistics class to discuss the controversial book, Academically Adrift, byt Arum and Roksa.  Are student learning in college?  What are the obstacles to engaged learning at Ramapo?  What aspects of the Ramapo experience promote academic development? Join us for a very stimulating conversation between faculty members and students.

"The Unexpurgated Truth: How does the All-College Tenure Committee work?"

An informal and unofficial discussion of how the tenure committee works. What the committee found credible and persuasive and what troubled it when assessing tenure applications. How the proportions between teaching, scholarship and service function in practice

Teaching Circles Writing Circle

Spring 2012 

Teaching Circles
Teaching circles are small groups of faculty from various disciplines who come together to discuss matters related to teaching and learning.  This semester, teaching circles will read and discuss "Student Success in College: Creating Conditions that Matter," by George Kuh, Jillian Kinzie, John Schuh, Elizabeth Whitt, and Associates

 Meetings (all in E-216) will be held on every other week on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays

 Faculty Discussion Group
Colleagues will gather from across disciplines to discuss the controversial book, "Academically Adrift:  Limited Learning on College Campuses," authored by Richard Arum and Josipa Roksa.

Writing Circles are composed of 4 to 6 faculty members who come together every other week to share their writing and receive feedback in a supportive environment.  This semester, members will read and discuss Paul Silva's book:  "How to Write A Lot: A Practical Guide to Productive Academic Writing." 

Meetings are held every other Tuesday in E-216.
