Sign-Up Instructions Using Web for Students or Web for Faculty
Alert Me Now is an emergency notification system for Ramapo College to enhance emergency communication on campus.
1. Go to the Intranet homepage: http://guide.ramapo.edu/
- Enter Web for Students or Web for Faculty
- Enter Self Service Site
- Students: click Web Registration or Online Bill and Payment
- Faculty: click Faculty Login

2. Click "Web Registration"

3. Click "Enter Secure Area"

4. Enter your Email Id and Password.
Update Alert-Me-Now Information

6. Enter Information
- Select Contact type (labeled "Phone Type") : Voice 1, Voice 2 or text
- Enter phone number and then proceed to next row and select next contact type and enter phone number
- Maximum of 2 voice and 1 text
7. Change a number/entry previously listed:
- Click the delete box next to the number/entry you want deleted. Press Submit.
8. To Opt Out
- If you chose not to participate, you can select "opt out" from the drop down box for the first number listed. Press submit.
- If you have information in the phone number area, click delete box then press submit. Select "opt out" press submit again. You will not receive any alerts.
9. To Delete: Check delete box and submit to delete a number
10. Click Submit at the bottom of page when finished. This information can be accessed or updated anytime.

1. Login to Luminis: http://my.ramapo.edu/cp/home/loginf

2. Click on My Courses (top tab)

3. Then Click on Web self service
4. Click on next Web Self Service link
This link will take you to Web Self-Service where you will be able to access different services depending on your role at Ramapo.

5. Enter your Email Id and Password

6. Click Personal Information (top)
Personal Information - Addresses, contacts, e-mail, marital status, SSN, PIN.

7. Click Update Alert Me Now information

REASONS TO SIGN UP
- Be the first to know about emergencies on campus. This includes weather related closings.
- Be aware of timely instructions pertaining to what to do during an emergency situation.
- This will help to insure your own personal safety.
- ALERT ME NOW provides the College with 3 contact points (1 phone number for text contact), 2 numbers for voice (cell, home, other).
- You will NOT receive routine messages, campus announcements or advertisements.

5. Click "Student and Financial Aid"

6. Click "Student Records"

7. Click "View Holds"

8. This student has an alert me now hold. Once the data is entered and submitted, the hold will be gone.
If you have other holds noted on this page, please contact the department listed as the originator. If you have difficulty removing the alert me now hold, please contact the ITS help desk. Ext 7000.

How do I get a hold off my registration because of Alert Me Now?
Sign onto web self services and enter a contact number (directions listed under next question). Make sure you hit the submit button. You also have the ability to opt out by selecting "opt out" and then submit. The hold will immediately be taken off your registration once you enter a phone number or "opt out." You do not have to enter this information again. It will remain in your record for future registration.
How do I sign up?
You can sign up anytime through web self services which can be accessed by Luminis or your R number. Click on the below detailed instructions. If you still have questions you can call the ITS Help Desk at x7777 from 8:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. You can also send an email to AlertMeNow@ramapo.edu.

Why should I add my contact information?
The emergency alert system is intended to get an emergency message distributed quicker to the growing number of people with cell phones. Ramapo College will always post emergency information to the Web and e-mail. We will use whatever other methods we have at our disposal to keep students, employees and others informed of emergency situations.
How much will this cost?
It costs nothing to add your contact information. If you choose to be notified via text messages, they will be delivered to your cell phone. If you use text messaging routinely, you probably have a text messaging plan, in which case no additional charges will be incurred. If you go over your monthly message allocation, or if you don't have a package of messages per month, you will be charged by your cell phone carrier their specified amount per message. In many cases, that's between 15 and 25 cents. If that's the case, that is a small price to be informed of emergencies.
How can I update my contact information?
You can update your contact information at any time through web self services which can be accessed by Luminis or your R number. See above information for instructions. Remember, you must first delete your phone number by clicking delete and then submit.
What if I change my mind and want to cancel?
Log into your account through web self services and select delete and then hit the submit button.
Does the service work on multiple cell phone networks?
Yes. Alert Me Now is a cross-carrier service.
Do I need to install software on my phone?
No. Alert Me Now uses industry standard SMS text messaging protocol to send messages to your phone. If you choose to receive text messages then your mobile phone plan will need to accept text messages to work properly.
Is there any way to test my phone to see if SMS text messaging works on my phone?
The simplest way is to have a colleague or friend try and send you a text message and in return, you send them a text message. If either does not work, you'll want to check with your provider as to what your plan or service includes.
Can my parents or an emergency contact sign up?
This service is for Ramapo College students and employees. However, when a person adds contact information they have the option to enter up to three contact numbers (one text and two voice). An alternate emergency contact can be added as one of the three contact points.
Do I have to add my contact information?
No. It's your personal information and you decide how it will be used. Information will still be delivered to the Ramapo College Web page and broadcast emails. You may not, however, get the information as quickly as those who sign up for Alert Me Now. Therefore, you are encouraged to add your contact information. Remember, in order to remove or prevent a registration hold flag you must go into web self services and either enter a phone number or opt out.
How many contacts should I enter?
We recommend that you add a SMS text contact for your cell phone. This is the fastest way to receive a message. If you don't always have your cell phone with you then you can add another contact number. An emergency contact is also a good way to keep someone else informed of emergency situations on campus.
Where will text alert messaging work?
Text messages can be received anywhere within your cell phone coverage works. Conversely, if you are out of wireless coverage or your signal is otherwise obstructed, you will not receive text alerts until you return to coverage.
How can I be sure my personal information won't be given out?
The data you enter to Alert Me Now belongs to Ramapo College. None of your personal information will be sold, offered or shared in any way. It will be kept confidential and only used for Alert Me Now.
Will I be flooded with messages once I sign up?
No. Ramapo College will use this service judiciously. We have a policy that assures the service will only be used for emergencies. We will occasionally send a test message to test the system.
Does this mean I should keep my phone on in class?
This is a classroom issue best addressed by your instructor. However, it is good cell phone etiquette to set your cell phone to vibrate to be respectful of others around you and avoid in class distractions.
How does this help me if I don't own or use a cell phone?
Your residence hall or home phone information can be entered. In addition, Ramapo College will always post emergency information to the Web and e-mail. We will use whatever other methods we have at our disposal to keep students, employees and others informed of emergency situations.
