Overview

Environmental Health and Safety supports the College's Strategic Plan by providing leadership and consultative services to prevent or to minimize injuries and illnesses through the identification, evaluation and control of potential hazards which may affect the institutional mission. We work together with the campus community, as well as strive to minimize college loss exposure, liability and assure a safe, healthy environment for students, faculty, staff and visitors.

Gina Mayer-Costa Profile:
Ms. Mayer-Costa is a graduate of New Jersey Institute of Technology. She has a BS in Industrial Engineering, MS in Occupational Safety and Health Engineering and MS in Engineering Management. She has worked in various health and safety positions in manufacturing, distribution as well as New York University. Ms Mayer-Costa is a Certified Safety Professional in comprehensive practice and ergonomics and a Certified Hazardous Materials Manager. She has served as the President of the NJ Chapter of the American Society of Safety Engineers in 2005-2006 and President of the NJ College Health and Environmental Safety Society in 2007-2008.  She is currently the Chairperson of the NJ State Industrial Safety Committee.  In 2005 Ms. Mayer-Costa received the Safety Professional of the Year award from the American Society of Safety Engineers for the Engineering Division and in 2006 she was awarded Safety Professional of the Year in New Jersey . Also in 2006, she was one of six safety professionals nationally honored as a North American Occupational Safety and Health Champion. Ms. Mayer-Costa is responsible for the day to day operation of environmental health and safety programs at the College and reports to the Director of Human Resources.

Mr. Harrington’s Profile:
Mr. Dennis Harrington is a graduate of the City University of New York with a major concentration in Economics. He enjoyed a successful career that spanned 28 years at The Dun & Bradstreet Corporation (D&B) in the Controller’s Organization; beginning as an accounting clerk, he often exceeded expectations associated with the constantly challenging responsibilities of the goal oriented and customer focused environment at D&B. At the sunset of his career with D&B., Mr. Harrington was Director of Sales and Revenue Accounting for the U.S. Operations including responsibility for multi-million dollar annual budgets and a staff of nearly fifty associates. The highlights of his career include but are not limited to the creation of billing and collection operating departments, having one of the best associates’ retention records in the corporation with many associates progressing onto careers of greater importance within the D&B Family, served as a key member of the team that created and successfully implemented the OASIS System (On line Accounting Sales Information System), achieved economic goals that gave rise to savings of over a million dollars and he was the recipient of many Customer Focused and Employee Satisfaction Awards. Concurrent with his D&B career, Mr. Harrington dedicated time to the Volunteer Fire Service. Mr. Harrington decided to exchange his “Corporate Hat” for a “Fire Helmet” and became a full time member of the career Fire Service in 2000, the same year he became Chief of the Franklin Borough Fire Department. Mr. Harrington is a New Jersey licensed Fire Official and Fire Inspector, a local Emergency Management Coordinator, a certified USA Freedom Corps CERT Professional, a member of National Fire Protection Association, a member of the New Jersey Fire Chief’s Association, is a Life Member of the New Jersey Firemen’s Relief Association, Secretary of the Sussex County Fire Protection & Inspectors Association, a member of the Sussex County Fire Chief’s Association, is certified by NAETI in Asbestos and Maintenance Operations, is certified in Confined Space Rescue Operations and hold numerous other certifications in assorted Fire Prevention, Detection and Suppression allied operations. Mr. Harrington continues his active involvement in the Fire Service and celebrated his twenty fifth anniversary of active duty in the fall of 2008. Prior to joining the Ramapo Campus Community on July 6, 2004, Mr. Harrington was the Fire Official at Kean University for approximately two and a half years where he was most successful in forming a partnership among Kean University, the Union Township Fire Department, the Township of Union Fire Prevention Bureau and the New Jersey Division of Fire Safety to the benefit of improved Fire Safety at Kean University. He is currently accountable for the daily Fire Safety Operations at Ramapo College and reports directly to the Director of Environmental Health and Safety.
