Message from the Provost - Summer 2010
Archived Provost Messages

Birch Mansion

I am happy to report that we are in receipt of a letter of accreditation decision and a statement of accreditation status from the Middle States Commission on Higher Education.  To reaffirm the accreditation the commission has requested a monitoring report, due by April 1, 2012, and a Periodic Review Report, due by June 1, 2015.  I look forward to working with the Middle States team, faculty and staff to ensure that all Institute goals continue to be met and the reports submitted to the Commission by their requested dates.

Personnel Updates -- Dr. Eric Daffron has joined Academic Affairs on July 1, as Vice Provost for Curriculum and Assessment.  Dr. Daffron brings a wealth of experience from his former position as the Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs at the Mississippi University for Women.  He is looking forward to meeting everyone at Ramapo and continuing the work of outgoing acting Vice Provost, Emma C. Rainforth. I would also like to publically thank Emma Rainforth for her hard work and dedication these past 11 months.  Though she has done an outstanding job as an administrator I know she is anxious to return to both  teaching and her research here at Ramapo.

Finally, I would like to welcome Eugene (Gene) Marshall, Jr. as Acting Director of Athletics, Intramurals, and Recreation.  Gene most recently served as the Deputy Director of Athletics at the United States Military Academy, a position he acquired in 2005 after serving seven years as Director of Athletics, Intramurals, and Recreation at Ramapo College.  Gene looks forward to working with the Athletics staff to help provide an array of programs and services for student athletes and students in general.

Task Force Reports

Pillar Task Forces

In Spring 2006, an International Education Advisory Committee was created, to explore all aspects of International Education at Ramapo; this Committee’s ongoing roles include working with ARC and the Roukema Center to  oversee the Ramapo Education Abroad offerings. In 2006-7, three Task Forces were formed to define learning goals and outcomes for the Interdisciplinary, Intercultural and Experiential pillars. Following open meetings in April 2007, these four groups presented their reports in May 2007.

All-College Student Learning Outcomes

In Summer 2007 the Learning Goals and Outcomes Task Force was charged with aligning and rationalizing the goals and learning outcomes identified by the three Pillar Task Forces, the International Committee, and ARC. The draft LGO report was presented to the campus community, and the final report presented in late Fall 2007

General Education Reports

In 2006-7, with the implementation of CEP and the new General Education program, ARC provided a report on the Goals and Objectives for the General Education program.

In May 2009, a team comprised of faculty and staff, led by the Vice Provost, attended AAC&U’s General Education Institute. They developed an assessment plan for the General Education program and a new organizational structure for it. The team continued through Summer and Fall 2009 (the Ad Hoc Working Group for General Education, AHWGGE).
