Student Trustee Job Description

The Student Trustee is a member of the Ramapo College Board of Trustees and a liaison member to the executive board of the Student Government Association. The role of the Ramapo College Board of Trustees is to have general supervision over the conduct and functioning of the college. The board of trustees is made up of 8-15 members appointed or approved by the governor, adopts and enforces polices and rules for financing, governing, operating and administering the college. The Student Trustee, afforded all duties and responsibilities of the other trustees except some attendance in closed session regarding very sensitive issues, may make and second motions, express opinions and preferences during scheduled committee and full board meetings, and cast a full vote on all decision items. The Board of Trustees has various subcommittees in the areas of Academic Affairs, Student Affairs, Finance, Capital Improvements, Human resources, and Institutional Advancement. In addition, the job of the Student trustee includes bringing a student perspective to the Board of Trustees, playing an active role in events and activities held by the board, and taking information back to the student body about the role of the Trustees. The Student Trustee serves on the Student Leaders Coalition and meets on a monthly basis with the President of the college and other student leaders. The Student Trustee attends all Student Government Meetings and is active within the organization.

The Student Trustee serves a two-year term, serving the first year as the Alternate Student Trustee. The Alternate Student Trustee is voted on in the Spring semester by the Senate of the Student Government Association. They have the same rights and responsibilities as the Student Trustee.

Student Governor Job Description

The Student Governor is a member of the Ramapo College Foundation Board of Governors and a liaison member to the executive board of the Student Government Association. The mission of the Ramapo College Foundation is to “provide the resources that make the difference in Ramapo College of New Jersey’s quest for educational excellence.” This includes providing funds for student scholarships, educational programs, faculty development and research, building projects, and capital needs. The Student Governor works with and reports to the staff in The Office of Institutional Advancement. The job of the Student Governor includes bringing a student perspective to the Board of Governors, playing an active role in events and fundraising activities held by the board, and taking information back to the student body about the role of the Foundation. In addition, the Student Governor serves on the Student Leaders Coalition and meets on a monthly basis with the Vice Presidents of the college and other student leaders. The Student Governor is also an active member of the Senior Gift Drive Committee, helping to secure donations from graduating seniors for the annual fund. The Student Governor attends all Student Government Meetings and is active within the organization.

The Student Governor serves a two year term, serving the first year as the Alternate Student Governor. The Alternate Student Governor is voted on in the Spring semester by the Senate of the Student Government Association. They have the same rights and responsibilities as the Student Governor.
