Message from the Assistant Dean of Teacher Education
The Teacher Education and Certification Program at Ramapo College in the School of Social Science and Human Services (SSHS) is continuing to train well-qualified teachers and meet the current challenges posed to education by the economy and the national priorities of assessment and transformation of teacher training. Our students are entering the field conversant in contemporary educational policy issues, extremely strong in content knowledge, and well prepared in sound pedagogical methodology.
The Ramapo Teacher Education Program is accredited by the Teacher Education Accreditation Council (TEAC). Going through the accreditation exercise gave us the opportunity to closely examine how we were going about the important task of educating knowledgeable, competent, and caring beginning teachers. The accreditation process was a catalyst for the faculty and staff to reflect on our program and implement changes where needed and build on the successful aspects of the program. We created and implemented many new mechanisms for collecting data that will help us continually monitor our students' progress and use this information to make ongoing changes in the program's curriculum, fieldwork experiences, and student teaching semester.

Recently we have welcomed dynamic and engaging new faculty in the field of reading theory and educational leadership. The Masters in Educational Leadership is off the ground and we are looking forward to the growth of this important pending program. In addition we are proposing the creation of a Master's in Special Education for elementary teachers. We are currently actively recruiting new full-time faculty in the fields of special education and elementary math and science methodology. We continue to draw on an incredible body of practicing professionals to enhance our course offerings.
| “The Teacher Education Program at Ramapo College is an example of excellence in educational training.”

These efforts build on our continuing commitment to provide the best teacher training for Ramapo's undergraduates and returning students. The program reflects and supports the mission of Ramapo College and is aligned with the New Jersey Professional Standards for Teachers. Our Center for Learning and Instruction (CLI) continues to grow as a resource center for our students and local teachers and the Future Teachers at Ramapo club continues its well-established reputation for providing service opportunities, information, and student camaraderie.
I look forward to working with all the Teacher Education students in the coming year and, as always, am eager to hear from you.
The Ramapo College of New Jersey Teacher Education and Certification Program is committed to the preparation of teachers who are highly competent in their academic disciplines and instructional skills. Our program, aligned with the New Jersey Professional Standards for Teachers, prepares students at the undergraduate and post-baccalaureate level to be teachers who model reflective, innovative behavior while demonstrating love and enthusiasm for life-long learning. The Teacher Education and Certification Program at Ramapo College seeks to ensure that teachers are prepared to communicate effectively, establish productive relationships, and respond to the needs of individual learners, the teaching profession, and the greater community in a fair, equitable manner. Finally, our program emphasizes the needs of a democratic society. We are preparing teachers to be leaders in the effort to make the world a safer, more compassionate, and more productive place where respect for all life, for our environment, and for the dignity and diversity of all people will be common priorities.
